Meet the mascot

Why a squirrel?

There's a reason a squirrel sits at the heart of everything we do — and it's not just because they're brilliant.

They look out for each other

There's a squirrel at the heart of everything we do

We never gave our squirrel an official name — we thought you might like to decide. What we do know is that they represent everything Hoarding Helpers stands for: resourcefulness, warmth, a deep instinct to gather and hold on to things, and an absolute refusal to judge anyone for it. Got a name suggestion? Drop us a line at info@hoardinghelpers.co.uk — we'd love to hear it.

Why a squirrel, though?

Squirrels are nature's most famous collectors. They gather, they store, they plan ahead — and sometimes they forget where they put things. Sound familiar? We chose the squirrel as our mascot because hoarding is, at its heart, a deeply human impulse. The need to hold on to things, to feel safe through possession, to prepare for an uncertain future. Squirrels don't get judged for it. Neither should people.

Six things squirrels can teach us

🌰

They're incredible planners

A single squirrel can cache up to 10,000 nuts in a season. They use spatial memory and landmarks to find them again — though they do occasionally forget a few, which is how new trees get planted. Accidental reforestation. We love that.

🧠

They're smarter than they look

Squirrels have been observed pretending to bury nuts when they think they're being watched — a decoy to protect their real stash. That's theory of mind. That's understanding that other creatures have thoughts and intentions. Honestly impressive.

🤝

They look out for each other

Grey squirrels have been documented adopting orphaned young from their own family group. When one of their own needs help, they show up. That's the spirit we bring to every referral we receive.

🏡

Home is everything to them

A squirrel's drey — their nest — is their sanctuary. It's where they feel safe. We understand that a person's home, however it looks to the outside world, is their sanctuary too. We never forget that.

🌍

They're part of the ecosystem

Squirrels play a vital role in forest regeneration. Their forgotten caches grow into trees. Sometimes the things we hold on to — even the things we lose track of — have more value than we realise. We think about that a lot.

❤️

They're genuinely beloved

In a 2023 survey, the red squirrel was voted Britain's favourite wild mammal for the third time running. We're not saying our clients are biased, but we're not not saying it either.

We support squirrel conservation too

It felt only right. We're proud supporters of the Red Squirrel Survival Trust — an organisation working to protect and restore red squirrel populations across the UK. Because if a squirrel is going to represent your business, you'd better look after the real ones too.
