For insurers & loss adjusters

Therapeutic Hoarding Support for Fire and Flood Claims

A bespoke, specialist service — rare across the UK. When a covered fire or flood loss is complicated by hoarding, reinstatement work often cannot start until contents are carefully reduced and safe access is created. We work with the policyholder — not around them.

Not a clearance — a therapeutic service

Hoarding Helpers provides person-centred, therapeutic declutter support that works with the policyholder. We are not a bulk clearance or waste-removal company. Our role is to make complex claims workable while reducing the risk of rapid re-accumulation.

We work exclusively via professional referral from insurers, loss adjusters, reinstatement contractors, fire & rescue, housing associations and other agencies.

How we fit the claim process

A straightforward process designed to minimise delays, support the policyholder, and keep the claim moving.

1

Referral

A loss adjuster, claims handler or reinstatement contractor identifies that hoarding is blocking access, drying, inspection or safe works and refers the case to us.

2

No-obligation assessment

We visit (or assess remotely where appropriate), evaluate the situation with the resident, and report back with a recommended approach, timeline and fixed quote.

3

Supported intervention

We deliver structured declutter sessions or a limited mini clear so the main reinstatement contractor can proceed with drying, cleaning and repairs.

4

Reporting & continuity

You receive regular updates and a written completion report. Longer-term support can continue if needed to reduce the chance of the property becoming uninhabitable again.

What we offer

Therapeutic declutter sessions

Weekly, structured sessions working alongside the resident. Gradual, supported reduction that builds sustainable habits rather than a one-off clear-out.

Mini clear for repair / access

Targeted clearance of specific areas so drying, inspection, boiler access or essential repairs can take place, with light make-good where required.

Case coordination

Single point of contact for multi-agency cases. We keep insurers, loss adjusters, housing and health teams aligned and provide clear progress reports.

Discreet, professional delivery

Plain-clothes staff, unmarked vans, DBS-checked team. Neurodivergent-friendly and trauma-informed approach.

Bulk clearance for contaminated waste

Where a claim requires bulk clearance of contaminated waste — such as fire-damaged or flood-affected contents — we work with a trusted partner to arrange this. This is coordinated through us as part of the overall case, so you have a single point of contact throughout.

Why insurers use us

  • Enables covered fire and flood works to proceed when hoarding is present.
  • Reduces the likelihood of rapid re-accumulation after reinstatement.
  • Handles the human and contents side that most restoration contractors are not set up to manage.
  • Professional, reportable process designed to fit insurance timescales and documentation needs.
  • Work only via professional referral — no cold approaches to policyholders.

What we do not do directly

  • Large-scale bulk clearance or general waste removal (see trusted partner note above).
  • Structural drying, smoke cleaning or full building reinstatement.
  • General building or renovation works beyond light make-good on mini-clear jobs.

We sit alongside the main reinstatement contractor; we do not replace them.
